This is a family business where our cakes are made from scratch, by hand, by real people and not machines.
We use the best possible ingredients, Belgian Chocolate, British Butter and absolutely no artificial colours, flavourings or preservatives.
Our cakes were inspired by my mum and mum in law - we still keep loyal to my mums' traditional values today. I think I might get in trouble if I didn't!
My son Sonny has recently joined the company, so it is now in its third generation.

The history behind Hertfordshire Cakes
Managing Director, Maeve Creswell was frustrated at the lack of natural cakes on the market when they first opened their chain of coffee shops in the 1990s and so Maeve decided to make her own cakes. The first cakes were based on Maeve’s mother in law’s old recipes book from the 1950s to the 1970s. Using natural and good quality ingredients, such as butter and Belgian chocolate, with no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives, they were a big hit with customers and it wasn’t long before the cakes were in huge demand.
The coffee shops are long gone now but some of the cake classics are still on the Hertfordshire Cake Co’ range today – Tiffin’s, traditional shortbread and the traditional flapjack. Everything is still made by hand, in small batches, just like they always have been.
